Diversifying portraiture
1 July 2016
The University of Oxford have recently launched the Diversifying Portraiture Project which plans to commission around 25 new portraits. Perhaps they were inspired by our exhibition celebrating co-education in 2014-15 or our current exhibition on access?
One painting already held by All Souls College has been highlighted during this project: it depicts Hertford alumnus Hugh Springer (1913-1995). Springer was a lawyer and public servant who was the first General Secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union and Governor-General of Barbados 1984-1990. He read Greek at Hertford College and was elected to an Honorary Fellowship here in 1974, as well as becoming a Senior Visiting Fellow at All Souls.
Follow the Diversifying Portraiture Project on twitter for more Oxford portraits or visit Hertford to see our current portrait exhibition.
