Training bike ride

10 May 2015

We’re holding a free bike ride on 10 May for anyone interested in our Tour de Hertford cycle challenge in July. If you’ve not yet signed up for the Tour de Hertford this is a great opportunity to find out if you want to get involved, and if you’re already signed up it’s an opportunity to meet the guides and other participants, ask questions and get tips for training.

You’ll have the option to ride either a 60km or 90km route, stopping halfway for lunch in Christmas Common. There is no charge for the ride or lunch.

  • 09.45 – Registration and bike check in OB Quad
  • 10.30 – Briefing in the Old Library
  • 11.15 – 60km or 90km training ride (start and finish at Hertford College)
  • Lunch at the Fox and Hounds, Christmas Common
  • 16.00 – Return to Hertford [latest]

Get in touch with the development [dot] office [at] hertford [dot] ox [dot] ac [dot] uk (Development Office) to book your place on the training day – we look forward to hearing from you!

Tour de Hertford recap

From Friday 10 to Sunday 12 July, we will be cycling from Morecambe to Robin Hood Bay. This event marks the 50th anniversary of Neil Tanner’s revolutionary access scheme, and the money raised will go directly towards student support at Hertford: bursaries, hardship grants, scholarships and outreach.

The Tour de Hertford will go through the most spectacular parts of Lancashire and the glorious Yorkshire moors, with the option of tackling some of the climbs featured in the 2014 Tour de France.

There are two routes, to offer something for both experienced and novice cyclists. The basic route is 200 miles over the three days and has gentle climbs – but still all the stunning views. The advanced route has extra loops and more challenging climbs, and totals 270 miles over three days.
