John Donne Lecture: Frances O’Grady

18 March 2016

For this year’s John Donne lecture, Frances O’Grady will be speaking on Should we stay or should we go? Britain and Europe – the TUC view. A campaigner for the minimum wage and fair pay for over 20 years, Frances is now the General Secretary of the British Trades Union Congress. The lecture will be held at the Oxford Martin School at 5pm on Friday 18 March 2016.

The John Donne lecture is an annual lecture held by Hertford College. Previous speakers include: Shami Chakrabarti, Director of Liberty; Tony Hall, Director General of the BBC; Lord Gus O’Donnell, former Cabinet Secretary; President Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights; Pulitzer prize-winning poet, Professor Paul Muldoon; and Hertford’s Emeritus Fellow of History, Dr Toby Barnard.

This lecture is free and open to all. Seats will not be allocated in the Oxford Martin School; doors open from 4.30pm.

Please register your interest in attending on our eventbrite page. Any queries can be sent to development [dot] office [at] hertford [dot] ox [dot] ac [dot] uk.

To complement the lecture, we are also holding a display of rare and modern books from Hertford’s library. The books have been chosen by current students and Politics tutor Dana Mills to explore social justice in and through books, including works by Maya Angelou, Mary Astell and Karl Marx. Find out more.
