Jazz & Pimm’s (Soweto Kinch concert) & alumni dinner

15 September 2012

Soweto Kinch will be performing a live concert, supported by Hertford students, on Saturday the 15th of September in Hertford’s OB Quad to coincide with the University of Oxford’s Alumni Weekend.

Soweto Kinch studied History at Hertford, matriculating in 1996, and has since received worldwide recognition as a jazz alto saxophonist and rapper. Kinch has won numerous accolades including the Rising Star Award at the 2002 BBC Jazz Awards and the prestigious White Saxophone prize at the Montreaux Jazz Festival. In 2003 and 2007 he won the MOBO prize for Best Jazz Act. In 2004 Kinch won two BBC Radio Jazz Awards: Best Instrumentalist and Best Band, along with the Peter Whittingham Award for Jazz Innovation.

The concert will be held to support Hertford’s Undergraduate Bursaries Programme. We need to raise ÂŁ120,000 each year to maintain this scheme, which is one of Oxford’s best, and continue Hertford’s tradition of equality of access to all based solely on academic merit.

See Soweto Kinch’s interview for the Hertford College News here.
