Social activities
You will have the opportunity to socialise not only with Oxford students, but also with students from other universities from all over the world.
During your stay you will be looked after by our team of Residential Advisors. The RAs will run social activities with you in the afternoon and evenings so that you can experience some of Oxford’s best kept secrets with real Oxford students!
Even if your classes are taught separately, we host social events which give students from all of our partner organisations opportunities to get to know each other. This allows our students to practice their English, build confidence, make friends, and learn about other cultures.
Your RAs will organise activities for you during your stay, especially in the evenings and weekends. As Oxford students, they have extensive knowledge both of the city and the university, and are invaluable guides during your stay here. Traditional English pubs, board games, quiz nights, and karaoke nights all play a role in your social life here at Hertford College. Other cultural activities include tours of libraries, museums, and other historic landmarks. Some groups choose to play games, go to the theatre, or organise movie nights.
If you love the great outdoors, you’re sure to find something for you. Oxford boasts many beautiful green spaces as well as impressive architecture, and spring and summertime are ideal times to see the city in full bloom. In the past, students have gone punting, played croquet and cricket, or competed against other universities in friendly sports days in University Parks. If you’re not particularly sporty, you and your RAs might prefer to grab an ice cream, go for a leisurely stroll along the River Thames, or simply sit and read on the lawn.
