Hertford alumnus winner of Leibniz Prize

Roderich Moessner (Physics, 1991) has been named as one of the recipients of the 2013 Leibniz Prizes.

The Leibniz Prize is an annual research prize awarded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft to scientists working in Germany.

Roderich Moessner was awarded the prize with Achim Rosch for outstanding contributions to research into interactive quantum systems. Roderich’s research has a focus on frustrated quantum spin systems and he is considered to be one of the world’s leading researchers in this field. Roderich Moessner laid the groundwork for his research during his studies and doctorate at Oxford, followed by postdoc work in Princeton and at CNRS in Paris. After a period as a lecturer at Oxford, in 2007 at the age of 36 Moessner became director at the Max Planck Institute of Physics of Complex Systems in Dresden.

The 2013 Leibniz Prizes will be awarded on 19 March 2013 at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Berlin.
