Rewilding Hertford Geography

Jamie Lorimer, Fellow and Tutor in Geography, has recently published his first book: Wildlife in the Anthropocene: Conservation after Nature. The book explores the challenges facing nature conservation in an era when humans are becoming recognised as a planet shaping force.

Jamie’s book draws on over 10 years of fieldwork in the UK, Sri Lanka and the Netherlands, discussing the potential of rewilding as an alternative vision for wildlife conservation. It also explores recent enthusiasms for reintroducing extinct animals to countries like the UK. Here the beaver, lynx or even the wolf are being promoted for their potential to rewild marginal landscapes and to create more resilient and exciting bits of countryside. He is currently exploring the ways rewilding is being used as a human therapy.
