Roy Foster on the Easter Rising
29 April 2016
If you missed Hertford’s Professor Roy Foster on Fergal Keane’s Rising Voices (Archive on 4) last Saturday, it’s well worth catching up on.
It’s a fascinating programme about the Easter Rising of 1916, dealing with its roots in the Irish cultural revival, how it figured in culture in retrospect, and how its romanticisation was challenged by Sean O’Casey’s controversial The Plough and the Stars. It’s exciting listening.
