Remembrance 100
11 November 2018 - 17:45
You are warmly invited to join our college Evensong on Sunday 11 November, marking 100 since Armistice Day and the end of the First World War.
The service will include singing from the Chapel Choir and an act of remembrance with the laying of wreaths. The preacher will be Revd Dr Chaz Howard, Chaplain at the University of Pennsylvania. Chaz is a prolific author, writing for publications including Black Arts Quarterly and The Huffington Post, and editing a number of books on poverty, poetry and spirituality.
Evensong starts at 5:45pm and will be followed by drinks and participation in the national commemorations for Remembrance 100: the Last Post will be played in the quad and our Chapel bell will ring in the Ringing Out for Peace, joining 1000s of churches and cathedrals across the country. Finally, our Lodge Manager David Haxell will act as our College Cryer for the national Cry for Peace:
“Town Criers raise your voices and together cry with me
Remembering those brave men and women in our history
The Battle’s Over A Nation’s tribute remembers them one and all
Be proud and stand united, don’t let your memories fall
Confidence is what we need so that Nations trust each other
And all the Races of mankind treat each other as a brother
Food for every living thing by nature is provided
If we could only see it was equally divided
The woods and streams, the mountains high, the sea and golden shore
Were never ever meant to be the cause of senseless bloody war
Or race for powerful armaments and sacrifice of youth
But a World of true contentment built on Faith and Trust and Truth
Peace to the World”
