Hertford’s Student Ambassadors, headed this year by Archie Jones (Hertford JCR Access Rep), demonstrate that Hertford is a diverse and supportive environment, open to anyone with the academic potential to succeed at Oxford. They regularly lead tours of the college, meeting prospective applicants and answering their queries. They also volunteer for question and answer sessions that help visiting school groups understand what day-to-day life at Hertford is really like and reveal the sometimes unexpected routes by which they came to be admitted.
The ambassadors play a vital role in welcoming people to Hertford for Open Days and in supporting applicants during the Admissions round. They make sure they settle in well on their arrival, keep them informed about the interview schedule, and act as guides when they are invited to interview at other colleges.
In 2013 the Ambassadors were delighted to receive a gift of £2,000 from the Hertford Society which made it possible to run a Roadshow for a number of our link schools in Camden and Essex. The Roadshow was a student-led initiative, designed and delivered in conjunction with the OUSU Target Schools Campaign, and the Ambassadors already have plans to run another Roadshow this coming summer (2015).
