Dr Theodor Nenu
Janeway Project Officer in Computer Science and Philosophy & College Lecturer in Philosophy
The Janeway Project Officer role is focused on helping to promote CS&P as a joint degree in Oxford, primarily through building on existing initiatives – including the Turtle online project (www.turtle.ox.ac.uk) and the UK Bebras Computing Challenge (www.bebras.uk) – and developing follow-on events.
Theodor earned his MCompPhil degree in Computer Science & Philosophy from the University of Oxford (Hertford College) in 2019, after which he went on to do a PhD in Philosophy at the University of Bristol. Before starting his new role here at Hertford, he was a Fellow in Philosophy at Harvard University.
His main research and teaching interests are Philosophy of Language, Philosophy of Cognitive Science, and Philosophy of Mathematics. He is interested in many other areas, and for the last three years he has been hosting the academically-oriented “Philosophical Trials” podcast.
He is currently working closely with Prof. Peter Millican on various outreach initiatives aimed at supporting the Computer Science & Philosophy degree. A particular focus of his role is to help in the development of, and creation of teaching resources for, The Turtle System, which is designed to help young students understand computing and to develop philosophically interesting programs and models.
