Up and coming conductor secures place on Women Conductors programme
1 February 2022
We’re delighted to hear that recent graduate Charlotte Corderoy has been chosen to take part in the Royal Philharmonic Society’s inaugural Women Conductors (WoCo) training programme.
Charlotte, who is currently studying for a Master’s in Orchestral Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music, gained a first-class Music degree in 2021. As an Organ Scholar, Charlotte was a regular presence in the Chapel during her time at Hertford, where she also found the time to be Principal Conductor of the Oxford University Philharmonia and MD of the Oxford Contemporary Opera Society. In the latter role, she conducted the UK premiere of Gavin Bryars’ chamber opera Marylin Forever and, more recently, she was invited by the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence to participate in the Young Women Opera Makers residency.
Selected as one of seven exceptional female conductors for the WoCo programme, Charlotte will work with the Royal Philharmonic Society and Sage Gateshead to get hands-on experience conducting the Royal Northern Sinfonia and dedicated mentoring from Alice Farnham, Founder and Artistic Director of the programme.
“My journey began,” says Charlotte, “as an undergraduate Organ Scholar who longed to descend from the loft, and try my hand at leading the choir! My draw to conducting has always been fuelled by a love of people, and a desire to understand how music fits into their lives.
