Tanner Prizes & Physics Research Bursaries
22 June 2018
Congratulations to the students who were awarded this year’s Tanner Prizes for outstanding contribution to Hertford’s outreach initiatives.
The students recognised by this award, which is named for Hertford’s former Physics Tutor Neil Tanner who kickstarted so much of the college’s access work in the 1960s, are:
- Holly Kilner – 3rd year, History
- Aisha Tahir – 3rd year, English
- Alice Maynes – 3rd year, Biology
- Joe Anderson – 2nd year, Chemistry
- Katie Burke – 2nd year, History
- Andrew Boczek – 3rd year, Chemistry
- Elena Burges – 2nd year, Arch & Anth
These prizes are funded by a donation from one of Neil’s former students and his partner, who are keen champions of Hertford’s proactive and inclusive approach to outreach. Their donation will also be funding two Physics Bursaries for research over the summer vacation. These have been awarded to Chris Mingard, a 2nd year Physicist who is doing a research project looking at simplicity bias, and Alexander Allison, who is using the award to turn his 4th year project about the ‘lop-sidedness’ of galaxies into a publishable paper. Congratulations to all the students, and many thanks to our donors!
