Only Artists – Mark Alexander
14 March 2018
Today on Radio 4, former Fine Art student Mark Alexander (1993) spoke with Humphrey Ocean, Professor of Perspective at the Royal Academy of Arts, about his work as a painter.
Mark came to Hertford as a mature student with no formal qualifications having worked previously as a silversmith, factory worker, and quality inspector in the aerospace industry. His works include a number of portraits, reinventions of iconic artworks of the past, and even altar pieces which featured in an exhibition in St Paul’s Cathedral, London. Nine of his works are included in the permanent collection of The Centre Pompidou Foundation, Paris.
A number of Mark’s works also reside in Hertford College, including the portrait of Thomas Graham Jackson which hangs in the Octagon, and a drawing of Richard Holder, former SCR butler. Humphrey Ocean’s portrait of Geoffrey Warnock, former Principal, is also at Hertford in the Hall.
