Nigerian biochemist welcomed as Visiting Fellow
26 July 2018
This summer, we’re delighted to be hosting a Visiting Fellow at Hertford as part of the Africa Oxford Initiative (AfOx). Dr Amos Olalekan Abolaji will be joining us on 5 August from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, where he is a Senior Lecturer in the College of Medicine’s Department of Biochemistry.
During his residency in Oxford, Dr Abolaji will be affiliated with the Department of Biochemistry, where he will be able to continue his research and work alongside colleagues from the University. Dr Abolaji’s research examines the links between environmental toxins and female reproductive dysfunctions and neurodegenerative diseases. His work is leading to the development of innovative design concepts for prevention and possible therapy in these fields.
He has previously been the recipient of grants from the Cambridge-Africa ALBORADA Research Fund and from the International Society of Neurochemistry. Dr Abolaji is a member of the Society of Toxicology, Society for Redox Biology and Medicine, and the European Teratology Society.
Hertford is proud to support AfOx – a cross-university platform for equitable and extensive academic and research collaborations between the University of Oxford and African researchers and institutions. Discover more about the work of AfOx and the research partnerships they support on their blog.
