New author in Hertford MCR

We are proud to announce the publication of graduate student Sam Levin’s book A School of Our Own: The Story of the First Student-Run High School and a New Vision for American Education. Sam is working on a DPhil in Zoology, and his book is based on his experiences as a high schooler:

The book, which I co-authoured with Susan Engel, is the story of The Independent Project, the school I started when I was in high school, and it is our vision for how high school education can become what it ought to be. It grew out of my experience with The Independent Project, Susan’s 40 years of experience as an educator, and many, many conversations about how we are failing our children, and how the changes that need to be made are profound but simple. It has been a long time coming, and it is strange — surreal almost — to see it in print, poised to be released into the world. So I’m a little nervous, but mostly excited, and hopeful.
