Hertfordian for Balliol

We’re delighted that alumna Dame Helen Ghosh has been appointed the next Master of Balliol College, following in the footsteps of Professor Sir Dummond Bone.

Dame Helen read Modern History as an undergraduate at St. Hugh’s College, before undertaking an MLitt in 6th-Century Italian History at Hertford. She has worked in a number of Civil Service departments, including being the first female head of the Home Office, and has most recently been Director-General of the National Trust. We would like to offer Dame Helen our heartiest congratulations from all of us at Hertford.
