Hertford musicians at Christmas
15 December 2015
Hertford students and alumni alike have been busy recording new takes on familiar Christmas tunes.
Current student Ifan Jenkin is a member of Oxford’s all-male a capella group Out of the Blue (you might remember their Shakira medley from 2014 which raised over £10,000 for Helen & Douglas House). Their latest charity single, also in aid of Helen & Douglas House, is a cover of ‘Santa Baby’ filmed in and around Oxford – and featuring a familiar Oxford landmark. Watch on YouTube or buy the single.
Meanwhile, a former Out of the Blue member and Hertford alumnus Oliver Stephenson co-founded and manages vocal group AfterParty. Their Christmas charity single is a cover of Wizzard’s ‘I Wish It Could be Christmas Every Day’, with their video filmed on their Sweden tour and at the Covent Garden Christmas lights switch on. Proceeds from sales of the single will be split between three children’s charities, Tommy’s, Starlight Foundation, and Honeypot. Watch their video on YouTube or buy the single.
And finally in college, HCMS marked the end of term with a well-received Christmas concert featuring a latin themed Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer (performed by the Jazz Band) and the more classic pieces of Elgar’s Nimrod (Wind Band), and Swan Lake (Tchaikovsky).
