Graduate freshers

This page is in the process of being updated. Please check regularly for updates.

We look forward to welcoming you to Hertford this Michaelmas. Below is information on joining and becoming part of the College, along with some forms for you to complete; this information will be updated regularly (documents that are not yet available will be added over the next few weeks). There is also information for new students on the main University website.

Once your conditions for entry have been satisfied, you will receive a formal letter and contract from the University. If you have not yet accepted your place or returned a completed financial guarantee form, please do this as soon as possible.

What to do next

Please complete the following online forms:

  • Arrival form - all graduates should complete this to let us know when they will be arriving (the form has now closed - please contact charlotte [dot] malins [at] hertford [dot] ox [dot] ac [dot] uk (Charlotte Malins) with any questions).
  • Bedding order form (if required)

Please also see here for medical and welfare information, and to register online with the College Doctor.

Important information

Please also see the MCR website, which contains information for new graduates, and will provide a list of freshers' week events.

Registration process

Once you have returned your Student Contract you will receive your university log-in details by email; please follow the instructions to register.  There will be a number of induction meetings around the start of term (including a medical registration session), and the MCR will run events to welcome new graduates and tours of the College in the preceding weeks.

A welcome package, including your university card, will be awaiting your arrival – call at the College Office as soon as you can to collect it between 10am and 4pm (Monday-Friday).  Please note that the College Office may be shut briefly around noon. Please bring three passport-sized photographs with you for College records, and your passport and (overseas students only) visa for scanning.

Overseas students

Details of the Orientation Programme for European and international students can be found here. The Orientation Registration code is OP2017.

Please note that all non-EEA students should obtain a student visa before coming to the UK.  Please refer to the UK Border Agency website to ensure that you meet the requirements for entry into the UK. Student visa matters are dealt with by your department.  You will need to collect your biometric residence permit card on arrival.  This can be done at the Exam Schools in late September and early October.  Students who arrive much earlier tor later than this will need to visit the Post Office to collect their biometric residence permit.

Sub Fusc

During your time at Oxford you will be required to wear sub fusc, most notably for Matriculation and sitting university examinations.

Sub fusc items can be purchased from various shops in Oxford:
