Organ Scholarship Open day
28 April 2018
The University’s Organ Award open day is happening on Sat 28th April. Anyone interested in becoming an organ scholar at Hertford is welcome to try out our amazing organ built in 1930 by Alfred Hunter with three manuals, 1518 pipes and with a distinctive romantic sound. Contact the Music Lecturer (Dr Benjamin Skipp benjamin [dot] skipp [at] hertford [dot] ox [dot] ac [dot] uk) to arrange a time to try it out and to meet our current chapel team of Chaplain and organ scholars.Â
Details of the organ scholarship can be found here (link to https://www.hertford.ox.ac.uk/my-hertford/chapel/about-chapel/organ-scholars-and-scholarships) The organ scholars at Hertford play a vital role in leading the musical life of the chapel, in many ways acting as the Director of Music role in other chapels. It’s a great opportunity to build up both playing and conducting skills. Organ scholars receive ÂŁ500 per year and – in addition – receive money to cover the costs of organ, singing and conducting lessons. There are two services a week, an evensong on Sundays and a Eucharist on Thursday in addition to sung Compline on Tuesdays.Â
