How to Be Global: 21st Century Survival Skills
24 November 2020 - 18:00
Hertford loves a lively conversation. Join our Principal and the Master of University College Oxford for the latest installment of our modern-day survival skills.
No previous generation of students has entered a world where their ability to thrive will be based to such an extent on how they can cope with the reality of a global existence. They are likely to live and work in many different cultures and countries. So what are the skills we need to navigate this new context? How do we develop the antennae to understand difference, and the curiosity to embrace change?
Our expert panel is here to answer your questions and share their own top tips for survival in a global world. Andreas Schleicher is the OECD’s Director of Education, and will be launching in the UK his pioneering new work on teaching and assessing global competence. In this joint event between University and Hertford College, heads of house Valerie Amos and Tom Fletcher will discuss with Andreas why these skills matter, and how we can help young people develop them. They will also be joined by bestselling author of The Silk Roads and Professor of Global History here at Oxford, Peter Frankopan.
The event is open to all so we’d love to see you there. There is no registration process – you can watch via YouTube on the day. If you have any questions you’d like to pose to the panel in advance, please submit them to communications@hertford.ox.ac.uk.
