Next Steps Essex: Y11 & 12 webinars
12 November 2020
Next Steps Essex is a new webinar series which aims to give Year 11 and 12 students from Essex, Thurrock and Southend-on-Sea, the tools to make a competitive application to Oxford and Cambridge.
This term, Emmanuel College (Cambridge) & Hertford College (Oxford) will be offering two webinars (one for Year 11, one for Year 12) introducing Oxbridge, and offering suggestions as to the next steps students can take.
The webinars are open to Y11 & 12 students who identify with one or more of our criteria here: care-experienced students, those who have been eligible for free school meals in the last six years, those who live in area with low level of progression to HE (as determined by home postcode), Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Students, Estranged Students, Young Carers and those who would be the first generation of their family to progress to higher education. This list is not exhaustive so there will also be an opportunity to inform us of your individual circumstances, if you believe you should be considered but do not meet any of the above criteria.
- The Year 11 webinar will be held on Thursday 12th November, 4.30-5.30pm
- The first Year 12 webinar will be held on Thursday 19th November, 4.30-5.30pm.
We will then be running two further webinars in February-April 2021 for Year 12s, which will discuss study skills and application to Oxbridge. Year 12s who attend our first webinar this term will be contacted about these. If this year’s pilot programme is successful, we will encourage current Year 11 participants to get involved again next year.
Application deadline for both programmes: Wednesday 11th November, noon.
