Kevin Hilliard studied at Oxford at both undergraduate and graduate level, gaining a BA in Philosophy and Modern Languages (first class) in 1975 and subsequently a DPhil. He was a lecturer at the University of Durham before returning to Oxford in 1995 to take up a fellowship at St Peter’s College together with a lectureship at Hertford College.


Undergraduate teaching 

Kevin teaches German language and German literature from the 18th to the 20th century .

Postgraduate teaching 

Kevin teaches on the MSt and MPhil in Modern Languages and supervises research students in the field of 18th-century German literature and thought.


Kevin’s research is mainly in 18th-century German literature. He has published books and articles on a range of German authors of the period, including Goethe, Schiller, Herder, Wieland, Lessing and Klopstock.
