Podcasting the pandemic
18 December 2020
As this exceptional year draws to a close, we were delighted to see the success of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine developed by our colleagues here in the University. But Covid-19 isn’t a one off – Prof. Peter Millican explores the long history of pandemics in the latest series of his Futuremakers podcast. As a philosopher, he knows how to ask the tricky questions and is joined by a wide variety of expert voices to get to grips with everything from the Plague of Athens in the 6th century BCE to the HIV/AIDS crisis in the 1980s. Meanwhile, engineering tutor Prof. Tony Wilson took part in a rather less prosaic podcast, discussing his work on the development of confocal microscopes alongside his love of American cattle rearing and Yorkshire cricket, an experience which saw our Senior Fellow don his cowboy hat and boots. In addition, our latest series of discussions with the Principal – 21st Century Survival Skills – are available to catch-up online as we welcome the next year of this, so far, unusual decade.
