Future leaders
2 June 2015
Marion Osieyo, a recent graduate from Hertford, has been selected as one of fourteen future leaders who will be giving their views on the world’s future at a European Commission conference, the European Development Days. This forum on global development and cooperation takes place in Brussels on 3-4 June with 5,000 participants from over 140 countries taking part.
Marion is passionate about transforming the policy, infrastructure and culture of global decision-making. Over the past seven years, she has developed and implemented projects in Asia, Africa and Europe promoting human and education rights for women and girls from refugee and low socio-economic communities. Marion commented:
As a young person, I believe there should be greater civil society participation in global decision-making processes. Young people especially are engaged in all sorts of initiatives to fight poverty and inequality and we can bring a fresh vision of development. Our generation doesn’t relate to the North-South divide anymore, we are global citizens fighting problems that affect people everywhere.
The 14 young representatives were selected from a total of 172 applications on the basis of their skills, experience and commitment on a given issue.
