Hall portraits display with champagne buffet
20 September 2014
Celebrating 40 years of co-education at Oxford
Â
The college has arranged an exciting new exhibition in Hall for the academic year 2014/5. The portraits in our Hall (currently all male) will be replaced with photographic portraits of women connected to Hertford, as we celebrate 40 years of co-education at Oxford.
Hertfordians past and present were invited to nominate sitters; we hope to recognise a broad range of achievement amongst Hertford’s women, including both people who are acknowledged leaders in their fields and those whose contribution is less publicly recognised.
On Saturday 20th September we will host a champagne buffet from 12 pm to 2 pm to display the new portraits. The photographer and many of the women photographed will join us as we publicly unveil the portraits for the first time.
The library have also arranged an exhibition of ‘Women in Hertford College Library’s antiquarian collections’, which will run from 11.30 am to 2.30 pm in the Old Library (all welcome, free admission). The exhibition includes a number of interesting works, including a Proposal to the ladies from 1694 by Mary Astell, often seen as “the first English feminist”.
This date will coincide with the Oxford University Alumni Weekend.
The dress code is smart.
Please book your place before 5th September, by using eventbrite or telephoning the Development Office on 01865 279428.
